Often these moments happened by accident; when we learn modern meditation however, we can make those wonderful moments happen whatever you doing, wherever you are. Once you experience this inner and outer alignment, there is no going back. The energy, joy, insight and focus it brings puts you on the right track. You’re on the way to thriving at work.
Unfortunately, we tend to find too many workplaces are still not set up to exploit and utilise this powerful and effective human potential, which is odd because it’s free! Instead, the default position is often hierarchical structures and division, combined with the need to label and award status in the mistaken belief that that’s how you manage, nurture and direct human potential.
Discovering real purpose
When we are able to align being and doing, it will point to a deeper experience. This leads to clarity and insight (literally inner-looking), which is the reason why it comes so easily. Things flow, tinged and laced with a little bit of joy. For a moment you became your purpose and your purpose became you.
Now don't get confused here. If that new feeling of insight and flow comes when you are writing up the minutes of yet another meeting, don’t suddenly think “my purpose is being a great minute taker”! It doesn't really work like that. It's not what you do, it's how you do it.
Sometimes you know your purpose as it comes as an epiphany, sometimes it’s a gradual shift, but your purpose is always whispering in your ear. You'll know when you hear it. As a teacher both of architecture and meditation, I will often see that moment in my students. When suddenly they know that deeper capacity to be and do.
If you take deeper notice, see more clearly and stay present to what is happening (another benefit of regular modern meditation practice), you will notice that other things align to help and serve you.
Professor Joseph Campbell called this ‘following your bliss’, as he explains in this short clip:
"If you do follow your bliss you put yourself on a kind of track that has been there all the while, waiting for you, and the life that you ought to be living is the one you are living. Follow your bliss and don't be afraid, and doors will open where you didn't know they were going to be."

This is a new and different way of working, which of course is as old as the hills and the best businesses are those that are aligning themselves towards helping others to find their alignment. Doing this means turning things inside-out. In other words, working from inside-out rather on the outside in - this is the shift that comes naturally to modern meditation. So what is the advantage of knowing your purpose? Well, it makes happy work.

When you finally figure out how to align your mind and body, your being in your doing, and bring your new found deeper insight into play, things really do begin to change. Not only for you, but for everybody else. The benefits of knowing your purpose include:
You begin to have a clearer understanding of where you are and where you need to get to. There is a clearer picture of the surrounding landscape you find yourself in, which enables you to plot and orientate a successful path.
You begin to notice your resilience grow. This helps us to stay on track, overcome obstacles and be resistant to distractions and negativity.
As we begin to align with purpose, it comes with a stronger sense of positivity. Life becomes more meaningful, productive and creative. There is direction, intention and nothing will hold you back.
After a while we notice that your purpose has been there all the time. Purpose is not invented but discovered.
In order to allow your purpose to come into the world, we use modern meditation to help us become non-attached, to not interfere; let go and let purpose flow through you.

Suddenly we begin to get it. It’s not you directing purpose, it’s the other way around. This insight sets you free.
