November was a a busy month for beanddo. It’s been interesting to see how much the benefits of meditation and making happy work are beginning to filter through many different professions, research and areas of work.
This month we were invited to take part in free workshops, while our next modern meditation community course started at The Life Centre North. But what else did we get up to?
In honour of International Stress Awareness Day, Holistic Manchester invited our founder, Mick Timpson, to the Wellness Dialogue, a special event hosted by the Salford Business Group. Mick was invited to do a short talk and host a wider discussion on how yoga and meditation are fast becoming a new workplace skill. They both help to tackle stress and burnout, while also helping to promote creativity, resilience and focus.
Mental Wellness – Make Happy Work
Continuing with ‘wellness’, Mick wrote a piece for the Manchester Law Society Magazine, The Messenger entitled ‘Mental Wellness – make happy work’. This month, mental wellness and meditation seems to have been a theme in the world of lawyers, which we are very pleased about. We published a guest blog post from Helen, one of our meditation students who also happens to be a hard-working lawyer. Read how Helen is bringing moments of meditation right into the heart of a busy professional office.
In November, Mick was invited to kick-off this year’s national Young Planners’ Conference for the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) at Manchester Museum of Science and Industry, another of beanndo’s clients. With the theme of wellbeing, Mick gave the opening address and then had the pleasure of sharing the first plenary session. The conference had invited Manchester artist Dave Draws to draw live during the event and document the emerging themes in the conference. Here is his interpretation of Mick providing a definition for happiness, isn’t it great?
Following on from the planning conference, Mick was invited to lead a very special workshop for the Urban Design Group North West. Organised by our very own Anna Kravec (who also happens to be an architect and urban designer), the theme was how to nurture and stay creative at work, from the outside in and from the inside out.
Finally, we donated a special one-to-one meditation session to our friends at Together Dementia Support, who held a charity auction that raised nearly £4000.
The lucky winners were Pam and her partner (pictured below), who both enjoyed their very own personal mindfulness session with Mick!
