OSTARA Spring Equinox Workshop
18 March 2023
In 2023 we are organising four special Modern Meditation based workshops in the Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. Each day-long workshop will help you reconnect and align with the rhythms of the natural world and our own natural state of being. We will be connecting deeply with ourselves and the world around us using special Modern Meditation practices along with yogic breathing, visualisation, self-reflection journaling and creative conscious action. We will be diving deep into stillness, flow, insight and joy as we powerfully reflect on and realise our needs and aspirations for the year.
This is an opportunity to reflect on where you are and where you want to be. To find balance, harmony and growth.
Each workshop will take place on a key date as the Earth moves around the Sun.

Join us at Ananda Barn and rediscover how your link to the Winter Solstice is a deep and meaningful one, reflecting the interconnectedness of the natural world and our inner lives and purpose – there are just three places…
The Winter Solstice represents the longest night and the shortest day of the year. Symbolically, it is a time of darkness, stillness, and inner reflection. Yogic philosophy often emphasizes the importance of turning inward, self-reflection, and personal transformation. The Winter Solstice aligns with these themes, making it an ideal time for introspective practices that promote change, inner growth, and renewal. In this day-long retreat at Ananda Barn, we will explore various meditation, visualisation and breathing techniques combined with exercises and rituals to align ourselves with the energy of the Winter Solstice. Together, we will tap into the stillness of the season and harness its transformative power.
At this final seasonal retreat for 2023 we will:
Renewal and Rebirth: As the Winter Solstice marks the turning point toward longer days and the eventual return of warmth and light, it symbolizes renewal and rebirth. At the retreat we will use this time to set intentions, release old patterns or habits, and invite positive change into our lives through yoga and meditation practices.
Meditation and Contemplation: The longer nights and quieter atmosphere of winter provide an excellent backdrop for extended meditation and contemplation. At the retreat we will take advantage of this stillness to deepen our meditation practice, explore the depths of consciousness, and gain insights into our inner selves.
Pranayama and Breathwork: Winter Solstice is a time when the natural world seems to hold its breath, and the air is crisp and pure. Practicing pranayama (breath control) during this time can help tap into this unique energy. Breathwork practices can enhance meditation reduce stress, and create a sense of inner peace.
Restorative Yoga: The winter season often calls for practices that prioritize rest and rejuvenation. Restorative yoga, with its gentle and supported postures, aligns well with the need for nurturing and self-care during the cold and dark months.
Celebrating Light: Many yoga traditions and cultures celebrate the return of light during the Winter Solstice with candlelit or fire ceremonies. We will conclude the day around a glowing fire with hot chocolate, creating a sense of inner warmth and comfort, symbolizing the triumph of light over darkness.

Designed by beanddo founder Mick Timpson with his wife and beanddo MD Sue Manley, Ananda Barn is their net zero home designed to touch the Earth lightly. The building is made entirely of sustainable timber, insulated by super compressed newspaper, and powered by photovoltaics, air source heat pumps and harvested rainwater. The special meditation space is divided from the house and opens to views across the surrounding Mendip hills. Depending on the weather we can also meditate in the garden.
Ananda Barn is located deep in the gently rolling Mendip hills in the heart of West Country. We are just 12 miles from Bath with its Georgian squares and streets, 15 miles from Glastonbury and its new age shops and 16 miles from vibrant Bristol. You can visit Wells Cathedral, with its unique inverted arch, just 8 miles away, while Frome and its amazing street market and shops are just 11 miles. Bruton with its fantastic world class art gallery, Hawser and Wirth is just 14 miles away.
There are plenty of places to stay in the area.
“I remember the tears of joy after our first meditation session, and I knew you had given me something special. Thanks for guiding us all to the bliss Mick. How beautiful!”
